The Most Special Day Of The Year

August 31st is a very special day for me. Not only are my husband and I celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary today (♥), I'm also celebrating one year of blogging, yay! :party

I almost can't believe it... This blog, one year old. I guess it's safe to say that I really love doing this! I've been struggling with dysthymia (chronic depression, for more info: try Google!) for years and it turns out the blogging thing is a welcome distraction. I want to thank my lovely readers for visiting my blog and leaving such sweet comments. Without you it wouldn't be half as fun! *muah*
This morning I decided to wear the nail polish I wore exactly one year ago: Orly - Space Cadet. That time I used four coats, so I wanted to see how it looked layered over another polish. This is two coats of Space Cadet over one coat of p2 - Dangerous. It's so blingy, love it.

Oh, and a party ain't a party without delicious noms, right? So go ahead... have a taste! ^_^

Dangerous Duochrome

When I was applying Metallic Green from peripera for the first time I knew it would be great for stamping. I like how metallic stamping looks over a creme nail polish, so I applied two coats of P2 - Dangerous and I used the feathery/leafy design from plate BM-210. Great base colour, check; beautiful stamping design, check; awesome duochrome stamping, check! I am bedazzled... ♥

Color Club - Ultra-Astral

Today I'm showing you a hot neon pink from Color Club's Starry Temptress collection: Ultra-Astral. My camera made it look a bit more reddish than it is in real life, it's PINK. This saturated pink is filled with prismatic glitter, but in a strange way it doesn't sparkle. It kinda looks like the glitter is trapped in the pink base, really odd, but also really cool! You can add some sparkly glitters with the Starry Temptress Topcoat from the same collection (I applied one coat on my ring finger nail). This top coat has a clear base with two sizes of glitter in the colours blue, orange and green. It's a fun top coat, but I think Ultra-Astral looks more interesting without it.
The formula of Ultra-Astral is amazing, it applies like butter. I used two coats. It dries to a matte, gritty finish, so if you like it glossy and smooth you have to add a layer (or two) of top coat. Adding the Starry Temptress Topcoat will not give you a glossy fnish, this one dries up gritty and matte too.

Review: Brush Set For Nails from Born Pretty Store + Guest Post

A while ago I received a nail brush set from nail art supplies heaven Born Pretty Store. On the website the set is called 3 Lot Acrylic & UV Gel Dual Nail Brush Art Kit Set Tips. Wowza, that are a lot of words for three brushes! Apparently they have multiple purposes, you can use them for applying acrylic nails or gel nails, nail art, etc. I don't have acrylic/gel nails, but I've used them for nail art. They work fine, especially the middle one (which is more rounded than the picture on the website shows btw), I find them a bit too big for small details though.

You cannot only use these brushes for nail art, they're also great for the clean-up! I prefer to use the slanted brush, but all three will work. They're not too small, not too big and they have the perfect flexibility to create a smooth line between the cuticle and the polished area. So if you're looking for decent clean-up brushes or big nail art brushes: give these a try! The price for this set is $3,15.

Glitter Rain

The light grey-blue polish I'm wearing is Rain Polish from Eyeko. I decided it was a good moment to wear this one when I opened the curtains yesterday morning: grey and rainy weather, ugh! Although I can hate rain, I love Rain Polish, the colour looks so soft and serene. It has a subtle silver shimmer, best seen in the second picture on my middle finger nail (told you it was subtle, lol). For some real sparkle I applied two coats of Color Club - Sex Symbol on the ring finger nails. What a wonderful glitter polish, with an extra coat you'll have opaque silver glitter nails. But I have to say that I really like it this way, with the base colour peaking through...

Comparison: Layering WIN & OPI DS - Glamour

A couple of days ago I posted a beautiful layering combination and apparently I wasn't the only one who loved it, thanks for all the lovely comments! My sweet blogging friend Deborah asked if I could compare this layering combo with OPI DS - Glamour. Well of course honey, this one is for you. :)
I applied three coats of Glamour on my ring finger nail, no top coat. As you can see Glamour is brighter and looks almost blurple next to the other nails. The prismatic effect of Glamour is kinda different too, the effect is lineair like Catherine Arley #667, but I also see scattered sparkles on my ring finger nail and the sparkles look more intense too (clearly visible in the 2nd picture). That must be the famous diamond-dust formula from OPI, don't you think? Although I'm deeply in love with the Kleancolor-Catherine Arley layering combination, nothing can beat OPI DS - Glamour. ♥
That's it for today, thanks for watching! :h

Layering WIN

Ok, ok, I confess: I'm addicted to prismatic prettiness. Those rainbows of colour on my nails are hypnotizing, no joke. Sometimes you're just trying some layering combinations on a nail wheel and then you find a killer combo like this! I applied two coats of Kleancolor - Neon Sapphire (I wouldn't call it neon, but it's a beautiful blue jelly) and one coat of Catherine Arley #667.

Something this pretty on my nails: instant happy-maker. :)

Color Club Glitter Vixen Collection

This must be glitter heaven...*sigh* These are the polishes from Color Club's Glitter Vixen collection. I have to admit that I rarely wear a glitter polish on its own (it's just too much glitter for me) but layered over a creme or a jelly? Awesome. Imagine: the gold glitter, Sultry Diva, over a dark blue, the purple one, Tru Passion, over a purple creme or the red glitter, Art of Seduction, over a metallic silver... The possibilities are endless!
Today I'm showing you a lovely combination, with undoubtedly my favourite from this collection, Magic Attraction, a clear nail polish filled with prismatic glitter. I applied one coat of Gosh - Groovy Grey, a wonderful greige creme, one coat of Magic Attraction and one coat of Seche Vite. At some angles the glitter looks pinkish, very interesting to look at. And of course it has a gorgeous sparkle which was hard to photograph. While I was taking pictures the nail surface looked smooth, but after a couple of hours it's feeling a bit gritty again, so I'll probably add another coat of SV.

My Love For Prints

Prints. Love them. Colourful prints? Even better! In case you haven't noticed: (colourful) tribal prints are a hot trend right now. I've seen some pretty nail art designs with tribal prints on the web, which inspired me to create a cool design on my own nails. Well, on one nail actually. As you may know I love accent nails, it's interesting enough to look at and not too much for me. Besides that, doing one nail costs me quite some time and I have other things to do besides painting my nails (crázy, I know! ^^). I think the end result looks pretty cool! Oh, and it's great to wear Kristi from Zoya again, definitely one of my fav polishes. This gorgeous red looks more blue-toned in real life though, my camera let me down a bit.

Below you can see some more prints: my awesome warm winter slippers (I'm actually wearing them right now, it's so cold in The Netherlands.. this is NOT what I call Summer) and on the right my favourite bedding (excuse the crinkles, lol). Enough proof for my love for prints? ;)

Thanks for watching!

The nail polishes I used:
red: Zoya - Kristi, blue: Catrice - Blue Cara Ciao, orange: Essence - Andy, You're A Star, jade green: OPI - Jade Is The New Black, black: Essence - Fatal, white: Catrice - Snow Motion!

Peripera - Metallic Green

If Kaz says you need a polish, you need it. That's right, you nééd it. Kaz has a massive nail polish stash, so I trust her. :O So when I saw this fabulous shade on her blog I immediately ran to ebay and bought it. I'm talking about Metallic Green, a gorgeous green duochrome from the brand Peripera. This nail polish is made of pure awesome, I don't know what else to say... just look at the pictures!

In sunlight it looks even prettier...
Metallic Green is easy to apply and very pigmented, you could get away with one coat, but out of habit I did two. It'll be great for stamping, don't you think? Some things you need to know about this nail polish: 1. it has a BIG flat brush, 2. visible brush strokes on the nail are inevitable with this nail polish finish. I'm not a big fan of brushstroke-y nail polishes, but with Metallic Green I don't care, 'cause it's too FABULOUS.

Peripera is a Korean brand with the cutest packaging, the brush handle of this nail polish is shaped like a cat!

LOVE: Nfu Oh 51

I have to agree with Michèle, Nfu Oh 51 can't get too much attention. I need to wear it more often and if you have it: so do you! I could not have the heart to remove the pretty Lady of the Lake from a england (still looking good after almost six days of wear!), so I used it as a base for Nfu Oh 51. The lady doesn't mind, she loves it. :)

I applied one coat of 51 and a top coat. This layering combination is very photogenic, I took a million pictures. It was hard to make a selection for this post, I hope you guys like it!

Look how the flakies glow in sunlight... ♥
