a england - Sleeping Palace

a england Sleeping Palace + stamped accent nail (a england Guinevere & Bundle Monster BM-313)
a england Sleeping Palace + stamped accent nail (a england Guinevere & Bundle Monster BM-313)
I'm sure this smoky purple nail polish with prismatic sparkles is a treat for your eyes! I'm wearing one of a england's newest shades, Sleeping Palace. Sleeping Palace was super easy to apply with perfect coverage in two coats. It's a pigmented shade, so I used it for stamping on a couple of accent nails (base colour is a england - Guinevere). I'm obsessed with this design from Bundle Monster plate BM-313.. I have the feeling this is not the last time you're seeing it on my nails!

Sleeping Palace reminded me of Misty Blush from Layla Cosmetics. They're definitely not dupes, although the base colour is quite similar. The prismatic effect of Misty Blush is much stronger.

Crossed Ascalon

a england Ascalon with simple cross design
a england Ascalon with simple cross design
Yup, I couldn't resist wearing my beloved Ascalon from a england again. I spiced a couple of nails up with a simple cross design. To achieve this look I applied two pieces of tape on the fully dried nail. Then I sponged the centre of the nail using a make-up sponge and a england - Bridal Veil. After removing the tape and applying a generous layer of top coat I added a black stud as the finishing touch.

The stud is from this wheel which contains various silver and gold studs. You can get it for $4,89 at Born Pretty Store.

Pastel Diagonal Gradient

Pastel Diagonal Gradient Nails with Flower Accent
Is it spring already? I'm sooo in the mood for pastel colours right now.. The base colour I'm wearing is Color Club - Secret Rendezvous (three coats). I wanted to combine this lilac beauty with another soft colour, so I used Eyeko - Vintage Polish to create a diagonal gradient. Lóve this combination! I made the flower accent with Konad plate m20 and Konad Special Nail Polish in White. I added a couple of dots with Cirque - Book of Shadows for a little bit of sparkle.

Hope you like it. ^_^ Thanks for watching!

a england - Princess Tears

a england Princess Tears
a england Princess Tears
I can totally see why this delicate polish is a england's gem of the month, it's a lovely shade for spring! Princess Tears is a lilac coloured polish with a strong lilac flash ánd an awesome and strong prismatic effect. At some angles it also flashes a subtle yellow-green, you can see a hint of it in my last picture. Princess Tears is kinda like Ascalon's lighter, lilac coloured sister! This polish has what we can call the typical a england formula: excellent. I used two coats, no top coat.

Pink & Blue: Speciallità Hestia & Poseidon

I hope you're not getting tired of seeing these prismatic polishes from Speciallità. I know I'll never get tired of them, in my opinion every single one is a masterpiece. Aren't these two soft shades stunning? A light pink and a light blue.. the Hits No Olimpo collection is really complete, so much fun colours! Hestia, the lilacy pink one, is a sweet and lovely shade and applies easily (three coats).
Poseidon has a knock-your-socks-off prismatic effect, the most intense of all the Hits no Olimpo polishes. This is also three easy coats.

These two beautiful shades plus eleven other nail polishes named after Olympian gods and goddesses are part of my giveaway prize, don't forget to enter!

Sing: Hey, Dirty-Lilah!

Last time I showed you a bold stamping combination, but I like them subtle too! For this look I applied two coats of Catrice - Sing: Hey, Dirty Lilah!, a greyed out lilac with a subtle silver shimmer (subtle as in it barely shows up on the nail). An interesting shade, like it can't decide if it's lilac or grey. The formula was on the thick side, I had some trouble getting an even result; luckily a layer of top coat helped to even out the streaks. After a day of wear I added the paisley-like pattern from Konad plate M64. I used Konad's Princess Special Polish in Light Gray as the stamping polish. I'm not impressed by the quality of Light Gray, some stamped parts look a little patchy, bummer! To finish it off I dotted silver dots over the stamped dots with Millennium from China Glaze and applied a layer of top coat. And do I like the end result..? Oh yes! ♥

Color Club - Fashion Addict

I'm having a rough week and my energy level is pretty low, so I'll keep this post short. The nail polish I'm wearing today is Fashion Addict from Color Club, a pale lilac prismatic polish. I've heard new bottles contain a flat, less sparkly version of the old Fashion Addict, boo! :@ I bought my bottle quite a while ago, but I'm not sure if I own the old or the new version. The prismatic effect looks pretty awesome to me, so that's a good thing! What do you think, old or new?

The application wasn't great, I needed three coats (no topcoat) to cover all the bald spots. A different basecoat, like the Aqua Base from Nfu Oh, could make the application easier. I'll try it the next time I wear this pretty. :)

Skittle Nails with a Skittle Funky French

Yesterday I was in the mood for something fun, which resulted in: skittle nails with skittle french tips. For the base colours I used pastels, for the funky french brighter or darker colours. What can I say..? I love this!

I know now why I never include my thumb in my pictures, it's not photogenic at all, it looks fat. But enough with the whining, lol.

All the polishes I used were cremes:

Base Colour
Tip Colour
thumb
Essie – Body Language
OPI – You Don’t Know Jacques
forefinger
Zoya – Caitlin
China Glaze – Grape Pop
middle finger
China Glaze – For Audrey
OPI – Jade is The New Black
ringfinger
OPI – Mod About You
Barry M – Shocking Pink
pinkie
China Glaze – Agent Lavender
Zoya - Kelly

What a list. *wipes off forehead* :i

Oh, I almost forgot.. I want to share a tip! You can make (funky) french tips by using french tip guides/tape or paint them on freehand. I like to do it freehand, but on days with shaky hands the line could be a bit wobbly. If you want a straighter line apply a layer of topcoat over the base colour before applying the french tips and let it dry. Then add the french tips and let them dry a bit. Now you can take a small brush, dip it in some nail polish remover, dab the excess off and carefully remove little mistakes. Because of the layer of topcoat you're not ruining the base colour. Add another layer of topcoat and you're done!

Gamax - Lilla

Gamax Spring/Summer 2011 POP Collection

Today I'm showing you another nail polish from the Italian brand Gamax. The polish is called Lilla and is part of the Spring/Summer 2011 POP Collection. This collection consists of six flashy summery shades.

Lilla is a lilac coloured pastel creme polish. It's very pretty and light and I think it's great for Spring/Summer! It's a great pedi colour too, I wish it was a little bit (well, actually a lot) warmer so I could wear my flip-flops again *sigh*. The application was a bit streaky, but after three coats everything was smooth and opaque. I didn't apply a topcoat and as you can see Lilla is quite glossy on its own.

For more information about the brand Gamax you can check their website or visit their fan page on Facebook.

Nfu Oh #64

This one actually doesn't need words, it just needs a whole lotta love (and a lot of pictures, I'm sorry ^^)! Nfu Oh #64 is a mauve, pinkish lilac coloured polish with an incredible, almost retina-searing, prismatic effect (and very distracting too, it's unsafe to wear this polish while driving, seriously). Don't you think it's odd that this polish looks quite uninteresting in the bottle and so crazy on the nail? It's pretty, so pretty, lalala... *does happydance* If you want a trip around the rainbow: all pictures are clickable! :D
I applied two coats over Nfu Oh's Aqua Base, no top coat.

Goodies from Born Pretty Store

I guess most of you heard of the webshop Born Pretty Store. This webshop offers a lot (and with that I mean: a lot!) of lovely nail art products like rhinestones, stickers, dotting tools and striping tape, but they also have makeup brushes, false eyelashes and even contact lenses. Jessica from Born Pretty Store asked me if I would like to review some products.. Well, of course! I love to try out new nail products. :) She was kind enough to send me two polishes, a wheel with coloured half pearls and a lot of fimo canes. I'm so excited about those fimo canes, aren't they cute? I can't wait to try them, especially the fruit designs!

But first I want to show you swatches of the two glitter polishes I got ($3,51 for 8 ml). The brand name is BO Nail Lacquer (the font on the bottle has a striking resemblance to the font on OPI bottles, don't know what to think about that). When I was looking for a name or a number I found a strange sticker at the bottom of the bottle which says Original Nail Envy. I doubt that these bottles contain OPI's Nail Envy, so what's up with that? Ah well.. No names or numbers then. EDIT: the sticker of the left one says B34 and the right one would be B02, but they don't look the same as the corresponding numbers on the website. So I don't know if the stickers on my bottles are right.
Enough about the bottles, let's talk about the polishes! I received two glitter polishes, one sheer pink with silver mini glitter and one sheer lilac/mauve with the same silver glitter. They are very very sparkly, love that! They contain so much glitter, the effect is almost metallic. The application was good, but these polishes are both very sheer. Even after applying three coats the smile line of my nail is still visible. I think I'll try layering them in the future.
Sparkly, right? :D I'm happy to tell you I received a code you guys can use to get a 10% discount at www.bornprettystore.com. The code is AMYGK31 and you can use it till March 31st.

Comparison: Catherine Arley #673 & OPI DS - Original

Here we have my promised comparison between Catherine Arley #673 and one of the OPI Designer Series polishes, Original. Looking at the bottles side by side they were quite similar to me, apart from the prismatic effect (which is way more visible in DS Original) and #673 being a bit darker. On the nail the differences between these two are more apparent.

OPI DS Original is lighter and I'd call it more lavender than lilac. To be more precise: DS Original is more blue toned than #673. But the biggest difference lies in the prismatic effect! Under bright light (last picture) the Catherine Arley polish has no chance, becoming almost boring next to DS Original. For me the latter one is definitely winning this battle, because let's face it.. there aren't much polishes strong enough to beat DS Original, right? :i But if you're in the mood for a more subtle prismatic polish, you could give the pretty #673 a try.
The application of both polishes is very nice, with #673 being the more pigmented one, I needed only two coats against three coats for DS Original.

Catherine Arley #673

And I'm back with another Catherine Arley today, #673. It's a lilac polish with a subtle, scattered prismatic effect (which is most visible in bright light of course :)). It was a dream to apply, this is two coats (no topcoat). I think it's truly gorgeous. A comparison with OPI DS Original is coming up!

Comparison: Color Club - Fashion Addict & OPI - DS Diamond

When I was wearing OPI - DS Diamond some time ago it reminded me of another polish. I went searching through my nail polishes and found Color Club - Fashion Addict. So here I have a comparison for you. As you can see they're not the same! Fashion Addict is more lilac and DS Diamond is more mauve-ish. The texture of both polishes is quite similar though, the density of the glitter is the same. Although I couldn't capture the effect of the prismatic glitter that well (no sun :( ), the effect is in both polishes equally strong. Actually I don't know which one I like better, so they both can stay! ;)
