Shawn Loves French Roast

Cirque French Roast sponged over Zoya Shawn
Oh. Wow. How amazing are these glittery tips? For this mani I sponged French Roast from Cirque over Zoya - Shawn. French Roast is very obviously made of awesome, it's so sparkly and complex. ♥ This week is going to be busy so I don't have much time to do my nails, but looking at this I don't even wánt to change them.

Sparkly Tips with Cirque - Ophelia

Sparkly Tips with Cirque Ophelia
Sparkly Tips with Cirque Ophelia
A smooth base and glittery tips.. this is my favourite way to wear glitter polishes, I love the contrast! For today's mani I applied two coats of Essence - Chuck (looks more blurple than blue in real life) and I sponged the tips with Ophelia from Cirque. Ophelia is such a lovely glitter polish, it has a clear base with periwinkle coloured hex glitter and pink and green shimmer. You'll need at least four coats if you want to wear it on its own so I recommend layering it over an opaque base. In the picture below you can see how one coat of Ophelia looks over a black and a blurple creme polish.

Ophelia is part of Cirque's Dark Horse collection. This handmade collection is available on the Cirque website and locally in New York at Annie's stand at Hester Street Fair. Prices range from $12 to $16 (13.2 ml).

Flamingo Inspired Nails

Flamingo inspired nails with gradient and stamping (BM-214)
Flamingo inspired nails with gradient and stamping (BM-214)
Today I'm showing you another bird inspired mani (click here if you missed my peacock nails!). The colours I used for this gradient (Barry M - Peach Melba & Orly - Pixy Stix) reminded me very much of the colouring of a flamingo, so I decided to do some accent nails with feathers. For the feathers I used plate BM-214 and Konad Special Nail Polish in White. I added some sparkly accents on the feathers with Rica from Zoya. I hope you like the end result as much as I do! ^_^

Peacock Inspired Nails

Peacock inspired nails with gradient and stamping (BM_212)
Peacock inspired nails with gradient and stamping (BM-212)
I proudly present to you my peacock inspired nails! I've always been mesmerized by peacocks and I wanted to do something like this for ages. As you can see I jumped on the bandwagon with gradient nails (thanks for the awesome tutorial, Sammy!). I started with two coats of China Glaze - Holly-Day, then I sponged with Holly-Day, Bermuda Breakaway and Grape Pop (all China Glaze). The pretty pattern is from image plate BM-212 and I used 2030, álso from China Glaze, as the stamping polish. I added dots in the center of the stamped circles with Zoya - Ivanka, Zoya - Mimi and a mix of those two.

Liquid Crystal Tips

China Glaze Crushed Velvet + China Glaze Liquid Crystal
China Glaze Crushed Velvet + China Glaze Liquid Crystal
China Glaze Crushed Velvet + China Glaze Liquid Crystal
I want to declare my love to Crushed Velvet from Diamond Cosmetics. It's my fav dark purple creme, so smooth and dreamy... I love it to pieces! And with China Glaze - Liquid Crystal sponged on the tips I love it even more. This is such a winning combination, I couldn't stop staring at my nails! The third picture shows the blue-purple colour shift in Liquid Crystal, SO gorgeous. (Keep in mind this mani looks way more purple in person.)
colour shifting shimmer, multi-coloured glitter, ooh and aah! ♥

Sparkly P·I·N·K

I'm keeping it short, 'cause I'm not feeling well. On my nails I have Catrice - Aretha's R·E·S·P·I·N·K (what a name!). This picture is NOT colour accurate. To be honest, I hesitated to post it. But it's a cheery mani and I love it so it deserves a post. ^_^ In real life Aretha's R·E·S·P·I·N·K is not this light and bright, but a beautiful deep pink. The formula was nice, this is two coats. I also sponged a little bit of Milani - Digital on the tips for some sparkle.

Indigo Lunar Eclipse

I love snow. But when it starts snowing at the moment I want to photograph my fresh new mani, I hate snow. I wish I had more pictures to show you, this looks so awesome! Recently I finally bought Barry M - Indigo, an insanely gorgeous blurple creme (the colour was hard to capture on camera, it looks much deeper and purplier irl). Indigo applied beautifully, two coats were enough for full opacity. I wanted to add something to it without losing too much of that beautiful colour so I lightly sponged the tips of my nails with Lunar Eclipse from Orly. This is a dreamy combination, I like it very much! Indigo is such a stunner, why haven't I bought it earlier? In my experience Barry M never disappoints!

Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend!

Happy New Year!

Can you believe we're living the last day of 2011? Time flies! On my nails something festive of course. This is by far my favourite sponged mani. In real life it's much sparklier than the pictures show, totally awesome! Yesterday I posted my ten favourite manis of 2011, but I must add this mani to the list.. so a top 11 for 2011 it is, how convenient, lol. I applied two coats of Kelly from Zoya. Then I sponged half of the nail with Speciallità - Hefesto, an amazing prismatic top coat. For some extra bling I also added Blair from Essence on the tips.

Have a wonderful day/evening/night! I hope 2012 will be an amazing year for you all. :h

Ashes & Fire

Yesterday I went to a Ryan Adams concert with my hubby. Even though Ryan had food poisoning (tweet after the show: 'Harmonica part on firecracker = almost puked' :~ ) he managed to give a fantastic show. I enjoyed every minute of it! The name and look of his new album Ashes & Fire inspired me to do this mani. The base colour is Iron Butterfly from Orly and I used Zoya - Rica and Gosh - Rainbow to create 'fiery' tips.

Review: Brush Set For Nails from Born Pretty Store + Guest Post

A while ago I received a nail brush set from nail art supplies heaven Born Pretty Store. On the website the set is called 3 Lot Acrylic & UV Gel Dual Nail Brush Art Kit Set Tips. Wowza, that are a lot of words for three brushes! Apparently they have multiple purposes, you can use them for applying acrylic nails or gel nails, nail art, etc. I don't have acrylic/gel nails, but I've used them for nail art. They work fine, especially the middle one (which is more rounded than the picture on the website shows btw), I find them a bit too big for small details though.

You cannot only use these brushes for nail art, they're also great for the clean-up! I prefer to use the slanted brush, but all three will work. They're not too small, not too big and they have the perfect flexibility to create a smooth line between the cuticle and the polished area. So if you're looking for decent clean-up brushes or big nail art brushes: give these a try! The price for this set is $3,15.

The Cadet Shouts: "Sir! Yes, Sir!"

I'm a little late with my post for today, because I had a busy day: I went rafting with my husband's work. It was a very exciting experience, but I did swallow a lot of water (whew)!

About the nails: I wanted to spice up the military colour Sir! Yes, Sir! from Catrice I showed you yesterday. It's definitely not a boring colour, but after a day of wear this creme polish screamed for a little something something. So I sponged the tips with Space Cadet from Orly, which turned out great! Every time I use Space Cadet I'm amazed by all the colours it shows, wow.

That's it for today, have a great weekend and.. thanks for watching! :)

Sparkly Berry

I have a short post for you today, because I have a terrible headache. xo

I'm wearing a berry coloured creme from Catrice, called Just Berried! Two coats, smooth application. To spice things up I sponged the tips with Zoya - Faye. I love these golden sparkly tips!

Queen's Day Nails

I'm a little late posting this, I just had a busy weekend.. oh well, better late than never, right? Past Saturday was a national holiday in The Netherlands, called Queen's Day. On this day the Dutch people celebrate the birthday of our Queen. Her actual birthday is on January the 31st, but I won't annoy you with the story behind that, on to the nails! Queen's Day means Orange Craze, it's time for the Dutchies to go all crazy with the colour orange; orange clothing, orange wigs, orange make up, orange nails... I'm not a big fan of orange (I'm a shame for my country, lol), but that doesn't stop me from putting something bright and fun on my nails, ha! :O I used four coats of China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy (terrible formula, yuk!) and sponged the tips with one of my new pretties, Rica from Zoya. These two polishes are a match made in heaven, seriously, so pretty! My camera freaked out when I wanted to photograph my nails, it looks waaay more coral and less orangey in real life. But for those of you who like orange, here you are. ;)

Sparkly Blue Curaçao

Today I'm showing you another brand new Catrice nail polish, Blue Cara Ciao. That name totally reminds me of Blue Curaçao, a blue coloured liqueur from the caribbean island Curaçao, yum! Aah, that brings back so much memories.. I lived on Curaçao for thirteen years and I still miss it everyday. I don't know if I want to live there again, but the island will always have a special place in my heart. Oh no, am I getting a bit emotional now? :$
Uhm yeah, the nails. I used two coats of Blue Cara Ciao, a fabulous medium blue, almost azure coloured, creme nail polish. In real life the colour looks more intense with a drop of yellow in it. Colours like these can be very difficult to photograph. If you ever tried photographing Custom Kicks from China Glaze, you know exactly what I mean, hehe. It's an awesome nail polish, per-fect for summer! I see myself wearing this a lot. The formula is nice and pigmented, this is two coats. Then I grabbed a sponge and my bottle of Charla (Zoya) to sponge the tips. Isn't this hot and beachy? I dedicate this mani to Curaçao! 8)

Dangerous Sparkles

I loved the sparkly tips I did last week so much I re-did them (without fimo this time, lol). This time I used P2 - Dangerous as the base colour (amazing polish!) and I sponged the tips with Charla from Zoya, another a-ma-zing polish. It looks like I dipped my nails in blue green sugar, yum! :O You can expect more of these sponged nails in the future, I love this look! And it's a nice way to refresh a mani and hide tipwear... ha!

The first pic is taken in sunlight to give you an idea how it sparkles (in real life there's a lot more sparkle-sparkle going on!), the second picture is taken indoors and the most colour accurate.

Thanks for watching! :h
