Bath Duck: Cake & Nail Art

bath duck nail art
bath duck cake + nail art
Do you guys remember my ladybug cake? I made it for a little girl's first birthday. Well, this little girl is a big sister now! I made this 'bath duck' cake for her baby brother. Of course I have matching nails for you to look at (this is a nail blog, after all).

Cirque - Dark Horse

Cirque Dark Horse over China Glaze Awaken with top coat
Cirque Dark Horse over China Glaze Awaken
For today's nails I used Dark Horse, a dark and mysterious nail polish from Cirque. At first I thought this polish had a black base with multi-coloured shimmer, but no.. Dark Horse's clear base is filled with small black glitter and rainbow sparkles. How amazing is that? I prefer layering glitter polishes over a non-glitter polish (makes the removal easier), so I used two coats of Dark Horse over China Glaze - Awaken. Dark Horse applies easily and dries gritty and kinda matte (second picture). You'll need at least two layers of top coat for a smooth and glossy finish. Normally I would go for smooth nails, but I'm surprised by how much I like this glittery polish without top coat!

Blinding Nails

China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy + Speciallita Hefesto
It looks like Summer finally started in The Netherlands, woohoo! I decided to celebrate by wearing this blinding layering. I used four coats of China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy (love the colour, hate the formula) and one coat of Hefesto, the prismatic top coat from Speciallità.

You should see this in person... :L

Fishing for Diamonds

Zoya Kelly with fishnet stamp (BM-310) and BornPrettyStore glitter
Zoya Kelly with fishnet stamp (BM-310) and BornPrettyStore glitter
For today's mani I used these blingy hex glitters from BornPrettyStore.com. They are absolutely stunning, I can stare at them all day! The nail polish I'm wearing is Kelly from Zoya. I stamped the fishnet pattern with Bundle Monster plate BM-310 and China Glaze - Millennium on some accent nails, then I added the hex glitter.

Rainbow Candy Cane Nails

Rainbow Candy Cane Nails with BM-301
Rainbow Candy Cane Nails with BM-301
A rainbow candy cane, that's what this mani reminds me of.. just perfect for a sweet tooth like me! The base colour I used is OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls and the design is from Bundle Monster plate BM-301. I wanted a gradient look for the stamped lines, below you can find a little how-to.
gradient stamping how-to
1. Pick two colours and paint two stripes on the image. Leave some space between the stripes.
2. Swirl the colours together with a toothpick.
3. Grab a scraper and scrape the excess polish off.
4. Place the stamp on the design, check if it transferred well and roll it over the nail. Work fast or the polish will turn too dry to stamp with. Some parts of the design are missing on my stamp because I had to take pictures. ^_^

Cirque - Never Nude

Cirque Never Nude
This lovely nude coloured prismatic polish is Never Nude from Cirque. The prismatic effect is really strong, it's a wonderful shade to wear on a sunny day! The formula of Never Nude was good, I used two coats for an opaque result. On the ring finger nail I applied two coats of OPI - Did You 'ear About Van Gogh? and I made dots with Never Nude. The first picture is most colour accurate.
Cirque Never Nude
Never Nude is part of Cirque's Dark Horse collection. This handmade collection is available on the Cirque website and locally in New York at Annie's stand at Hester Street Fair. Prices range from $12 to $16 (13.2 ml).

Pink & Delicate

Pink & Delicate with BM-306 (matte)
Although I loved the design, my last stamped mani was a bit too heavy for my taste. The subtle stamped nails I'm showing you today are more my style. I used another great pattern from the new Bundle Monster plate set. I started with three coats of Catrice - Miss Piggy Reloaded and one coat of OPI - Princesses Rule!. For the stamped design I used plate BM-306 and Konad's Special Nail Polish in White. I finished with a layer of matte top coat. I really like the result, it's so delicate and lovely. ♥

Today I'm showing you another nail polish from Pupa's Holographic line, this is Holographic Light Green. It's beautiful and dreamy... the prismatic effect is to die for! I'm afraid I'm gonna end up buying the entire collection. :o This is two easy coats over Nfu Oh's Aqua Base, no top coat.

Skittle Nails with Tribal Print

Skittle Nails with Tribal Print (Bundle Monster BM-315)
Let me begin by expressing my love for the new Bundle Monster stamping plate set! I love stamped nails and all those new and fun designs are very, very inspiring. Today I used the tribal pattern from plate BM-315, is that a cool pattern or what? ♥ I'm not sure what to think of this mani though. I find black as a stamping colour often too overpowering and the nails with crooked stamps don't make me happy. I do like the idea of using a tribal print on skittle nails!

Glow In The Dark Nails with CH Nail #12

Glow In The Dark Nails with CH Nail #12
I've been wanting to try glow in the dark nail polish for ages, so I was really excited when I spotted a series of luminous nail polishes on BornPrettyStore.com. Today I'm showing you #12, a glowy pink. It's quite sheer and the formula is thick and gloopy, so I decided to layer it. This is two coats over a white creme polish, no top coat. I added striping tape and black dots to make the glow in the dark experience even more fun! The glow is clearly visible in the dark, but I have to say that my camera makes my nails look more glowy then they are in real life. Oh well.. I think it's fun! A downside of this polish is the drying time, it took hours to dry.
